Statement:
Naomi Doran uses raw industrial building materials to create organic, minimal, architectural artworks. Whilst the compositions are fundamentally geometric the properties of the materials and the way in which they age and weather creates the natural randomness which gives them their overwhelmingly organic character.
It is the unpredictability of working with materials such as these that makes every piece a new and exciting experiment for her. Even when she has an end result in mind, often it is the medium that determines its course leading to surprising results.
She takes her inspiration from the architectural and natural landscape surrounding her, from desolate, derelict, decaying constructions but also from the way in which the natural elements manipulate and transform surfaces, colours and forms. |
